After Iran's attack on Israel, German politicians have called for tougher action against Tehran. There were cross-party calls for tougher sanctions and a change of course in Iran policy at the EU level.

The EU has already imposed sanctions on representatives and parts of the Revolutionary Guards, freezing assets and imposing entry bans. However, it has not yet been classified as a terrorist organization. The response to the current attacks must be “maximum support” for Israel, said Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder. The Bundeswehr is already present in Jordan and Iraq - where it is part of the international coalition fighting the Islamic State jihadist militia in Iraq and Syria. The upper personnel limit is currently set at 500 German soldiers. The “worldwide condemnations” of Iran’s actions showed that Tehran was isolated with its “aggressive behavior,” said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. “The Iranian regime has clearly led the entire Middle East to the brink of the abyss,’ she said.
