Iceland: Prime Minister resigns to run for president. Katrin Jakobsdottir, 48, was at the head of a left-right coalition that has governed Iceland since 2017.

President Gudni Th. Jóhannesson, in office since 2016, announced at the start of the year that he would not stand for re-election to this largely ceremonial post. Coming from a family of academics and parliamentarians, Katrín Jakobs dóttir was the second woman to serve as head of government in Iceland.
