Lyon's Union Circle was formed in 1917 by the merger of three 19th century circles. It perpetuates the tradition of the British circles of that era, between well-bred people accustomed to cozy corridors.

Lyon is known as a city of networks and discretion, Lyon logically hosts the largest regional circle in the city. The Union Circle features classic lounges upstairs and more modern conference or meeting spaces on the ground floor. It is one of the few circles in France where the power networks of the city come together, with a sometimes fantasized influence on the media. The Circle is open to the public, but not to the media, and members are asked not to talk to the press about their activities. It was founded by a group of four men, three of whom are under 35 years old, in 1917, and is located on Place Bellecour, in the heart of the French capital, on the edge of the Champs-Elysees.
