'Eid al-Fitr' marks the end of the Ramadan fast. In Mazara del Vallo, in the Trapani area, there was no fear that the day of celebration would become a holiday for the 200 Tunisian children who attend the 'Borsellino-Ajello' institute.

The principal Eleonora Pipitone accepted the invitation of the 'Jasmin del Mediterraneo' association and she thus opened the school courtyards for the typical Muslim celebration. "How could we say no - explains laPipitone - our institute is attended by a thousand children of which 200 are foreigners and every day educational activities are carried out which allow them to live their religion in freedom", she says. The migratory flow from Tunisia began in the 1980s and has never stopped: "We are already in the third generation - says the mayor Salvatore Quinci - entire families have settled here and have integrated into our social fabric, working on fishing boats"
