Politicians, the European Union, and NGOs denounce the illegal watering of Spanish producers. They call on European consumers to turn away from Andalusian red fruits.

The Huelva region accounts for 98% of soft fruit production in Spain and 30% of the EU. It is also the world's largest exporter of strawberries, supplying mainly German and British supermarkets. But farmers are accused of illegally pumping water from groundwater, and thus drying up the reserve of the Doñana Natural Park.
