Mexico City is in the grip of a drought unprecedented in 1,200 years. The capacity of the Cutzamala system has fallen drastically, reaching only 36.2% of its capacity as of March 19.

The Ministry of the Environment has set up a rainwater harvesting program. Piping, filtering equipment, disinfection and water retention systems are provided free of charge to residents of municipalities with the highest levels of water shortage. However, not all residents can cope with the drought in the same way.
