Consumer prices rose by only 1.6 percent in March 2024 compared to the same month last year. The European Central Bank (ECB) aims for stable prices in the medium term with an inflation rate of 2.0 percent.

Within a year, energy prices fell by a total of 5.4 percent in Hesse. Vegetables and milk, for example, became significantly cheaper, while bread and meat became slightly more expensive. In restaurants, guests paid an average of 8.1 percent more, and net rent for apartments increased by 1.8 percent.
