Iran holds elections with fears that a record of abstention reflects the unrest of the population. Polls predict a low turnout in the first elections after the protests unleashed by the death in police custody of the young Mahsa Yina Amini.

The rejection that those protests expressed is still evident in gestures of civil disobedience such as that of the thousands of Iranians who do without the veil. Added to this detachment is a serious economic crisis with inflation around 50%. In this context, the challenge for the authorities is to achieve an acceptable participation figure.
