Israel: War cabinet member calls for early elections, Netanyahu's party rejects him. Israeli Minister Benny Gantz called on Wednesday to “set a consensual date” for the organization of early elections.
Likud immediately rejected Gantz's call, saying in a statement that elections at a time when Israel is at war "would inevitably lead to paralysis" and "harm the fighting" of the army at war against Hamas in the Gaza strip. The leader of the Democratic majority in the US Senate Chuck Schumer, on the other hand, approved this call. “When a senior member of Israel's war cabinet calls forEarly elections and 70% of the Israeli population supports it according to a major poll, we know it is the right thing to do,” he said.
