UN officials said it was “crucial” to reach a political solution, based on the “full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701i” This resolution, which ended the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel, stipulates that only the Lebanese army and UNIFil be deployed in southern Lebanon.. At least 363 people, mainly Hezbollah fighters, including at least 70 civilians, were killed in Lebanon, according to an AFP count, and 18 people in Israel, ten soldiers and eight civilians.
