"Blue Flags" are awarded annually to the most beautiful and cleanest beaches by the sea, inland waters and marinas. In 2023, about 226 coastal cities were awarded, but 458 beaches were included.
Two new beaches, Laigueglia and Sori, were added here, putting Liguria at the top by a wide margin. Puglia in the south of Italy is followed by Tuscany and Calabria with 19 flags each. For this year, four new municipalities were added: Gallipoli, the Tremiti Islands, Leporano and Vieste.
