Laurent Berger will leave the CFDT in June after a decade as its secretary general. He is the only man who inspires confidence on the left and on the right, among workers and managers alike.

The CGT was created in 1964 to replace the CGT-FO, which had only five members at the time. It is now the only union in France that represents all workers, not just those who are employed by the state or the state-owned companies. The CFDT-FO was created to represent all the workers who are not employed by state or state-run companies.
