Nayib Bukele began his career in a small town, Nuevo Cuscatlán, where he had the revelation that he was called to power in capital letters. He was elected mayor of this town in 2012, with a budget of two million dollars, when he had hardly any experience.

In meetings, his colleagues felt a certain discomfort hearing him speak with that millennial ease. “He was a wolf and we were sheep. Only we didn't know it then,” says one of those present at those meetings.
