Mikael was accompanying his 12-year-old son to the swimming pool when the two cycled through an underpass in Skärholmen. A gang allegedly shouted at the father and son on their bikes, but instead of ignoring them, Mikael decided to turn back.

A few moments later they shot him in the face and the man died instantly. The murder shook the neighborhood and also had repercussions in politics. Even the Swedish Prime Minister, UlfKristersson, expressed his outrage at what happened. "The gangs, with their total ruthlessness, will not stop until we stop them," said Kristersson in a statement. The police are investigating the murder, but so far there have been no arrests. The victim's sister said Mikael was a person who always told young people to stop doing what they were doing. "He was like any parent who wants their children to grow up safe, to be able to go out and play in the street like we did," she said.
