Ahmad Saboor Hamraz was born in November 1998 in Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was not under the influence of cannabis or alcohol at the time of the incident.

He stabbed two Algerian nationals near the Miroir d'Eau, a tourist site in Bordeaux, after accusing them of drinking alcohol. A police officer armed with an assault rifle shot him dead a few minutes later. The authorities found “a boxing medal, two Korans, a prayer mat and a telephone” there, which will be exploited, explains public prosecutor Frédérique Porterie. Two investigations were opened, one for “murder” and the other to examine the circumstances in which the police shooting was carried out. The prosecution is in contact with the national anti-terrorism prosecution with a view to a complete assessment of the situation, Porterie says. The individual had obtained refugee status from OFPRA on September 14, 2021, after a first request for asylum made in Greece.
