Gérardmer, in the Vosges, was forced to open late this season. The ski resort, managed under municipal management, was already showing a deficit of 1 million euros per year since 2020.

Last weekend, the area closed its doors prematurely, because the snow was becoming far too rare. With an operating record even worse than imagined, the resort will record a deficit estimated at 3.2 million euros for this 2023-2024 financial year. The debate on the future of mid-mountain resorts, just ten years ago, gave rise to a lot of denials.
