The Bundestag has set up a study commission on German involvement in Afghanistan. The committee of eleven MPs and eleven experts is intended to investigate errors and draw lessons from 20 years of commitment to future foreign and security policy.

Some mistakes were made during the withdrawal in August 2021. The federal admission program is “still running far too slowly and bureaucratically,” says the Greens chairwoman of the study commission, Shahina Gambir. “The criteria who is recognized as a local employee are still insufficient,’ says the chair of the committee. ‘Compared to Europe, most former staff in the federal government has already taken the most local staff in Europe with certain hardship cases,' says the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation in Germany. The German government has also introduced a variety of adjustments and facilitations to the local staffing process to ensure that the local staff are not overworked and under-resourced, says the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development in a statement.
