Waakirchen community has four book exchange houses set up in four districts. Green Party councilor Evi Obermüller had taken up the wish to use disused telephone boxes as public bookcases.

Anyone can put a book on the shelf as a donation, anyone can take one out. Eighty percent of “current, great books” are donated as reading material.. Crime novels and novels, as well as picture books, are particularly in demand. Many families with small children, but also pensioners of all ages use the exchange houses.. To ensure that the reading material is distributed, the chairwoman of the Kolping Family goes to all four houses to make sure that the books are well distributed.. “I’m happy as hell when I see that something has been picked up again,” remembers the gentleman who was overjoyed to have actually found a book about Masuria in the different districts in the Bavarica corner of Germany.
