Luke Fleurs, a 24-year-old South African footballer, is shot dead in an attempted robbery. He played for Kaizer Chiefs and participated in Tokyo 2020 representing his country.
Police launched an investigation, but as of Thursday morning no arrests had been made. Crime is a recurring problem in South Africa, and a hot political issue as the general elections approach in May. The footballer was waiting to refuel his Volkswagen Golf when two men arrived in another vehicle. The suspects threatened him with a firearm and made him get out of the vehicle, before shooting him in the upper part of the body.
