A mob in Haiti lynched two people on suspicion that they had purchased ammunition or guns for gangs terrorizing the country. The police apparently fired warning shots in the air to try to prevent the murder of the two, but were unable to stop the crowd.

The lynching demonstrated how undermanned the Haitian police are, and the anger of Haitians following months of killings, kidnappings and armed attacks by the country's gangs. Last year there was a significant jump in the number of dead and injured as a result of gang violence, reaching 4,451 dead and 1,668 injured.
