Lyon pays tribute to father of Robert Badinter rounded up by the Gestapo in 1943. Simon, the father of the former Minister of Justice, was among the 86 Jews arrested and deported that day.

“The city of Lyon will never accept discrimination, intolerance, threats, insults against Jews, or any other community because of their supposed origins,” declared Grégory Doucet, the environmentalist mayor of Lyon. ‘We cannot separate the anti-Semitism which killed here from that which still kills today,’ said Richard Zelmati, regional president of the representative council of Jewish institutions.
