To build a land-based wind turbine or solar panel capable of generating 1 to 3 MW of energy, 4-5 tons of Copper are needed. To achieve the objectives of decarbonization, estimates are for a "5 or 6 times" growth in demand compared to current consumption. The supply of copper has been put to the test by the operational and political instability of the regions in which it is extracted.
