Marina Marzia Brambilla, vice-rector delegated to Teaching and Student Services, has been elected rector of the University of Milan. She is the first woman to lead the university, which turned 100 this year.

Brambilla received 1,651 preferences against 644 preferences for Luca Solari. "It took 100 years but we did it," the hot comment of the new rector who will lead the University for the next 6 years. The proclamation took place after the counting of ballots in the university's main hall. The election took place on Wednesday. The university will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015. The rector will take up her post on January 1, 2015, and will be in charge for six years until the end of the current term in June 2015.
