Charente-Maritime lost an area of 5.35 km2 between 1960 and 2010, the equivalent of 749 football fields in 50 years. In 2050, up to 125 economic activities and 190 homes could be threatened by marine erosion for a value ranging between 80 and 140 million euros.

“In France, 20% of the coasts would be affected,” recalls the Court of Auditors, citing figures from CEREMA, the Center for studies and expertise on risks, the environment, mobility and development.
