14 Extinction Rebellion activists were arrested during a demonstration by this group of environmental activists. These activists had organized a blocking action in order to demand from the prefect the cleaning up of the fire in Saint-Chamas.

For almost two years, this commune in Bouches-du-Rhône has been crumbling under a mountain of 12,800 tonnes of charred waste after a fire which broke out on an industrial waste storage site. The Marseille prosecutor's office specified to Le Figaro that these activists were the subject of classification without further action on the condition of payment of a citizen contribution in the amount of 150 euros. They were arrested on Wednesday in front of the prefecture in Marseille. The group was protesting against the waste from the Saint-chamas fire. The fire broke out in the commune of Saint- Chamas in April 2012. The site is used to store industrial waste and has been closed since then. The prefect of Bouchesdu- Rhône ordered the clean-up of the site in March 2013.
