Mati Diop won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale with Dahomey. The French-Senegalese director documents the restitution of works of art stolen by European colonial armies in sub-Saharan Africa.

'I wanted to reconquer my blackness, crushed by the Western’, says Diop. “For years I lived in a white and elitist world. I could have become an actress, but I preferred to fight this battle”, she adds.
