Cité de la musique Simone-Veil will open in January 2025. It is located in and next to the former prison dating from the mid-19th century.
The 31 music theory and instrumental practice classrooms have decent dimensions. The original cells were small (less than 9 m²), and it was necessary to knock down thick load-bearing partitions and install large cement beams so that the building still stood. The first notes of apprentice musicians should resonate in classrooms which for decades have been the place of confinement for habitual criminals.
