Methane emissions from the fossil fuel industry remain at record levels. “There is no reason for these emissions to remain so high,” denounced Tim Gould, chief economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Methane, the second most important greenhouse gas after CO2, is the natural gas molecule, which escapes from gas pipelines, coal mines and our gas cookers.

Around 580 million tonnes of methane are emitted each year, 60% of which is attributable to human activity and almost a third to natural wetlands.
