Suddenly everything is white. Forces of nature thunder down on the houses, which look almost like toys next to the huge cloud of snow. Avalanches are among the most dangerous natural phenomena of all. If people are caught by the snow rollers on the mountain, their chances of survival are usually slim. Most recently in January, avalanches closed a ski resort and the army had to fly tourists out of the area in China.
