Rheinmetall wants to produce the latest generation of its Luna reconnaissance drone there. The defense company has bought the former Lidl building at Grube 51 in order to expand its Penzberg location, formerly EMT.
According to the company, production is scheduled to start next fall. The existing location on the other side of the street at pits 27 and 29 will be retained. The expansion will not have any impact on the location in Iffeldorf, according to RheInmetall's own information. The company currently employs more than 200 people in PenZberg and the surrounding area. The building was on the list of options for a new BRK location last fall, but it was sold short in a short time short time to R heinmetal. The new location will be located next to the current RheinMetall location in Gauting, which is currently the company's headquarters. The LidL building has been empty since July 2023, when the discounter moved 200 meters further into the new local supply center.
