Munich district has taken up the cause of so-called climate neutrality, which it wants to achieve by 2040. In Kirchheim they have now adapted to reality.

It was originally assumed that there would be 12,000 inhabitants in 2030, but today the figure has already exceeded 14,000. The PV open space potential was estimated to be significantly too high and was reduced to a maximum possible 36 hectares. The assumption of district heating efficiency at 30 percent, which is now halved, has also been changed to 30 percent by the district administration. The goal was to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 and even achieve complete neutrality by 20 40. But now the assumptions and objectives are much more realistic than before, says the district's environmental officer Josef Hermann. It is expected that by 2030 there should be 40 percent electric cars and by In 2040 even 100 percent. This will also increase the demand for electricity enormously, says Hermann, which can only be covered by participating in a wind power project in the district.
