"He told me that when I was in the United States it would change my life," laments the mother of Ángel Eduardo Maradiaga Espinoza, who assures that he did not suffer from any illness. The 17-year-old Honduran boy died Wednesday at a shelter for unaccompanied migrant children in Florida.

Authorities have not released the cause of the young man's death or the circumstances of his illness or the medical treatment he may have received. It is the first known death of a migrant child in custody under the administration.
