Many mountain tourists attempt to climb the Zugspitze without sufficient equipment. From an altitude of 1,500 meters there are the first snow fields, the ropes are buried under snow, you need ice axes, your own ropes and crampons for the climb.

Two Czechs were recently rescued by mountain rescuers with a skidoo after they had climbed the via ferrata with only sneakers and without any orientation aid. Mountain rescue service has also had to be called out again in the past few days because of the wintry conditions that continue to be at higher altitudes. The situation in the Tyrol mountains is currently treacherous. A 19-year-old avalanche victim died in an avalanche at an après-s-ski accident in the Acrol mountains. The mountain rescue service's advice: "Folding spades, Bunsen burners, various taulins and 50+ liter backpacks may be adequate camping utensils, but are completely unsuitable in the flatlands"
