Bernard Beignier, 66, has been rector of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur academic region since 2014. By presidential decree, he left his post in the South of France for the same functions in Paris.

At the same time, he was appointed chancellor of the universities of Paris and Île-de-France. He succeeds Christophe Kerrero who, last February, left the position he had held since 2020. The future school map provides for the closure of 134 primary school classes in Paris from the next school year.
