National park status attracts guests to the Wadden Sea. Around 15.3 percent of all guests visited the Lower Saxony Waddensea region in 2019/20 because it is a national park.

In 2007, 10.9 percent of guests justified their stay with the presence of the national park in the Schleswig-Holstein region. The head of the Schledwig- Holstein National Park Foundation said that the park plays an important role in securing family income in the region. “A national park does not contradict economic interests,” said Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt.
