Israeli television shows a speech of sanctification of the army, exemption from responsibility and incomprehension of the rest of the world. Instead of images of desperate Palestinians queuing for food, Israelis receive advice on how to deal with emotional hunger.

The general tone in times like this – and particularly after the trauma of the October 7 attack – has three common elements: Palestinians are ignored or dehumanized, the army is sacrosanct, and Israel lives surrounded by countries that hate it or do not like it.
