Being pro-Israel does not mean slavishly supporting any leader of the country, especially the most failed one. Israel must destroy Hamas while minimizing harm to civilians, writes Aaron Miller.

Miller: Netanyahu's disastrous engagement with Hamas before it carried out the October 7 massacre and his conduct of the war since then have made it vital. Israel's military leaders do not realize that they cannot afford such fiascos, Miller says. But Netanyahu may not be directly to blame for the WCKK deaths, he says. "A double standard, but that is another reality under which Israel has operated under which it has always operated under," Miller says, referring to Westmoreland-style command and control in Iraq and Afghanistan in the 1980s and 1990s. "It's a double standard that can't be allowed to stand," he says, "and it's time for a change" in Israel's leadership. "Where is Israel after six months of war? Not in a good place," Miller asks.
