There are fears of an open conflict between Israel and Iran. Unrest in the West Bank could encourage this.
A destabilized West Bank would play into the government's hands. Iran is said to have smuggled weapons into the region in the past in order to foment unrest with Israel. The aim is to stir up unrest against Israel by flooding the enclave with as many weapons as possible. For the Iranian government, theWest Bank could become the central theater of the anti-Israel shadow war. It is believed that the smuggling routes have been used for two years, but they now bring more potential weapons. The threats against Israel are currently getting louder and a war between Iran and Israel seems to be only a matter of time.. Numerous embassies are now warning people to leave the region, and numerous airlines are avoiding the region because of the potential for violence. The Israeli military has therefore been taking massive action against Palestinians for months, and the operations have repeatedly resulted in deaths and injuries. The West Bank has been the scene of repeated conflicts since last fall following Hamas attack on Israel.
