New York City offers prepaid debit cards to migrants and not credit cards as they falsely say on social media. This pilot program provides cards with about $12 per person per day to spend at local stores just to buy food or baby products.

The city has allocated $53 million to the pilot program, which officials say will save $600,000 a month and $7.2 million a year to city coffers. If the program is successful, the city will expand it, Mayor Adams said.
