New York State allows inmates to observe solar eclipse for religious reasons. Prisoners filed a lawsuit against the state of New York, which ordered that inmates there be confined for safety reasons when the Moon moves in front of the Sun.

In exchange for dropping the complaint, the prison administration agreed to abdicate, and will even provide safety glasses to inmates. This Monday's total solar eclipse is indeed the second in seven years in the United States and the first observable in New York in almost a century.
