Clinics in Virginia expect an increase in patients from southern states soon, but warn that many will not be able to afford the cost of the trip. Many will have to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term, even when it is a risk to their health.
On July 1, clinics will begin referring pregnant women older than 12 weeks to clinics in Virginia, Maryland, Illinois and Washington, D.C. "We're going to see a lot of people forced to continue pregnancies against their will," said Amy Hagstrom Miller, founder of Whole Woman's Health.
