Nuclear waste will be stored at the former nuclear power plants until at least 2046 - at least. The highest Bavarian administrative judges still see no security problems.

The storage of the nuclear fuel in the containment containers is sufficiently safe for the approved storage period of 40 years. The radioactive waste is to be stored in the interim storage facilities near the former German nuclear reactors until there is a final storage facility in Germany. Many critics now assume that the decentralized warehouses will be needed for much longer, possibly into the next century.. Nuclear waste is still stored in Brunsbüttel today, although the interimstorage facility there still does not have a permit. The Bavarian judges, however, consider the Gundremmingen camp to be safe, even if terrorists caused an A380 crash there. The judges assume that in such a case, the terrorists would be stopped by improved protection ten years ago until the police are on site and can intervene. The state government in Munich must finally protect people because the danger from terrorism is increasing.
