Vladimir Putin secured a fifth term with an overwhelming number of votes. Putin won 87.29% of the vote.

Nearly 76 million voters voted for the now re-elected president. After facing only token rivals and harshly suppressing opposition voices, Putin was set to extend his nearly quarter-century rule for six more years. Even with little room to protest, Russians crowded outside polling stations on Sunday, the last day of the election, apparently heeding a call from the opposition to express their displeasure with the president.
