Draft decree allows public agents to combine their employment with private security activities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The system will only last two months, namely from July 15 to September 15, and only agents who already hold a professional private security agent card will be eligible.

“The exercise of the lucrative accessory activity must not undermine the normal functioning, independence or neutrality of the service to which the agent is assigned,” concludes the government. The French Federation of Private Security (FFSP) has identified a need for 20,000 agents to supplement the current workforce of around 180,000. The Paris 2024 Games are expected to mobilize between 17,000 and 22,000 private security agents depending on the day. ‘30,000 law enforcement officers’ will be on deck every day, with a “peak” planned for the opening ceremony on the Seine. Soldiers will also come to lend a helping hand and guarantee "safety cushions", based on the model of the system deployed during the Rugby World Cup last fall, an event "which was a security success” according to the president.
