Palestinians restart procedure to become a UN member state. The admission of a State to the UN is done by decision of the General Assembly, by a two-thirds majority.

Observers doubt that the request will reach the Assembly, highlighting the risk of a veto by the United States in the Security Council. So far, the Israeli government has clearly rejected the two-state solution, and the Israeli parliament voted overwhelmingly in February against any "unilateral recognition" of a Palestinian state.
