The track for the athletics events of the Games, in a unique purple color, is being installed. Never before has Mondo, the Italian company which has supplied the Olympic vulcanized rubber tracks since 1992, used purple.
The old track was completely removed, two layers of asphalt were then laid, serving as a base for the new surface. Nine lanes will be installed, while the long and triple jumps, which were formerly at the foot of the presidential stand, have been moved to the opposite straight. A central saltire has been added, a way of providing additional spectacle. The track will also be more eco-responsible, thanks in particular to the use of… mussel shells, aimed at reducing theUse of petroleum-based materials. Nearly 900,000 tickets have already been sold for the events which will begin on August 1st. The long throw competitions will take place in the south turn of the stadium, once again allowing the entire stadium to benefit. The different necklaces have been changed as well.
