Around a hundred Parisian students forced to leave their Crous accommodation requisitioned during the Olympic Games, moved on Thursday. Students affected by these housing requisitions have until mid-August to decide whether they want to return to their old accommodation.

“I'm going from 23 m2 today to 18 m2, I'm not going to be able to fit all my furniture,” regrets the young woman I met in a residence in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. The public authorities estimate that 30% of rooms remain empty each summer in Île-de-France, where the Olympics are taking place. The Crous assured that it had sent a questionnaire to the students benefiting from this Crous housing and received 2,300 responses, including 1,448 requests for rehousing at this stage. The decision to “launch a first wave of moves now because places were already becoming available” was made by Crous de Paris general director Thierry Bégué.
