Paris is the only department in Île-de-France whose population has been declining for 5 years, according to INSEE. Paris recorded a drop of 8.5%, or 21,700 fewer births in one year.

The capital has the lowest total fertility index in all of mainland France, with 1.25 children per woman, tied with Upper Corsica. In 2013, when 100 people left Paris, 94 moved there. In 2022, there were only 72 left in the capital.
