Pension or armament: What the Germans really find more important. Germany spends an estimated 372 billion euros on pensions.

Almost 52 billion euros are available for defense, which corresponds to 10.9 percent of the federal budget. For 2027, 51.9 billion euros currently earmarked for defense and 134.6 billion euros for pension insurance. This means that the Bundeswehr is missing almost 30 billion euros in order to achieve NATO's two percent target. However, the federal subsidy for pensions will no longer be sufficient in the near future.
