Brussels is still blocking 35 billion in subsidies because of the legal-political intrigues of the PiS, the party in power. Poland's nationalist-conservative Law and Justice (PiS) government has been asked to make efforts in terms of judicial independence and the rule of law.
"Poland will have to demonstrate that these steps have been taken before any disbursement (of funds) can take place," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on 17 May 2022.
